VLF data store

The data store currently contains 27,300 files from 2000 onwards. About half of these are in the data format in which they were originally contributed. All of these have been translated into coma separated value (*.csv) format files, which accounts for the remaining files.

The files consist of the following types:

  • *.spd files - these are files produced from Radio-SkyPipe (RSP). They can be read by RSP or Starbase. RSP can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.radiosky.com/skypipeishere.html. Starbase can be downloaded free of charge from www.ukraa.com/www/downloads.

  • *.csv files - these are comma separate value files, which can be opened in Excel (you will need Excel 2007 or later to view csv fils with more than 32,000 rows of data) or Starbase. Excel Viewer can be downloaded free of charge from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/273711.

  • *.txt files - these are text files, which can be opened in Word, Wordpad, Notepad, Starbase and RSP.

  • *.dat files - these are data files, which can be opened using John Cook's logger software and Starbase.

  • *.xml files - these are data files, which can be opened using Starbase.
